Gençlerbirligi sack Çetin

Gençlerbirligi SK have dismissed coach Oguz Çetin after just two months following their Turkish Cup exit

Short reign
The 41-year-old replaced Erdogan Arica in October at the mid-table Ankara club but was unable to improve their form. Yesterday's 2-1 cup defeat by Superleague strugglers Kayserispor persuaded the board that a change had to be made at a side that began the season in the UEFA Cup before a first round exit against Egaleo FC.

Targets missed
Club spokesman Muammer Akyüz said: "The team had moved away from their pre-season targets in the league, and having been knocked out of the cup we have no targets left to reach. Our board has decided that we should part company with Oguz Çetin whom we regard as unsuccessful.

Open mind
"Çetin's successor could be either Turkish or foreign. Our vice-president Atilla Aytek and general manager Cem Onuk will start searching for a new coach tomorrow," Akyüz continued before adding that the club would change their transfer policy. "As we did two years ago, we will turn to young players rather than famous names."
