English Premiership strugglers Blackburn Rovers FC have agreed to sign South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena from KRC Genk.
Fee agreed
The versatile 24-year-old has completed a trial successfully and will join for an €850,000 fee in January, subject to being granted a work permit. He first moved to Europe in 1998/99 with Germany's KFC Uerdingen 05 and subsequently played for AFC Ajax before a loan to Belgian side KFC Germinal Ekeren, who then became KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen after a merger, joining Genk in 2003.
Hughes confirms news
Blackburn manager Mark Hughes is planning to make a number of transfer window signings with his side just one point above the relegation zone. "Aaron is the captain of South Africa and can play in central defence or the centre of midfield," Hughes told Blackburn's website. "He has impressed us during training. He is a great athlete with pace, a good organiser, a very vocal character and he will be a good addition. We have agreed a deal with Genk and with the player."
