Rangers FC could only manage a 1-1 draw at Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC on Sunday, allowing Celtic FC - who defeated Hibernian FC - to regain the lead in the Scottish Premier League.
Early setback
Rangers went behind after just two minutes at Pittodrie when Graham Bayne gave the home side a surprise lead from close range. Inevitably, Rangers battled back and Dado Pršo equalised with a low drive - his eleventh goal of the season - five minutes into the second half. But a second goal for Alex McLeish's off-colour side failed to materialise and relegation candidates Inverness held on for a point.
Hartson double
Rangers now lie a point behind Celtic, who regained top spot with a 2-1 victory against Hibernian. John Harston scored twice to take his personal tally to 17 for the season, but the home side were forced to earn their win against a spirited Hibs side. The game looked to be heading for a draw following Gary Caldwell’s 75th-minute equaliser before Hartson scored his second seven minutes from time.
Aberdeen fightback
Aberdeen FC are still third after coming from behind to edge a five-goal thriller against ten-man Kilmarnock FC at Pittodrie. Argentinian striker Fernando Pasquinelli twice equalised after Danny Invincible and Peter Leven had given the visitors the lead in a frenetic opening half-hour. Chris Clarke struck the decisive goal on 72 minutes and Kilmarnock’s thin hopes were dashed when Colin Nish received his second yellow card.
Hearts victory
Heart of Midlothian FC eased to a 3-0 win against Dunfermline Athletic FC to stretch the visitors' winless streak at Tynecastle to 15 years. Dennis Wyness headed them into the lead from close range on eleven minutes and second-half goals from Ramón Pereira and a Paul Hartley penalty moved Hearts to within a point of city rivals Hibernian in fourth.
Perfect start
Livingston FC gave Richard Gough the perfect start in his first game in charge with a 1-0 win against Dundee FC at Almondvale. James McPake's first senior goal on 24 minutes was enough to give Livingston all three points, which moves them off the foot of the table and into ninth.
Paterson proves point
Dundee’s city rivals Dundee United FC also lost 1-0 as they returned to the bottom of the table following their defeat at home against Motherwell FC. Former Tannadice winger Jim Paterson scored the only goal of the game on 17 minutes to give Motherwell a fifth consecutive win.
