Results of audit
Diouf, a former journalist and player agent, was confirmed in his new role after a board meeting today. Louis Acariès, a former European boxing champion and close friend of Marseille owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus, attended the meeting to present the results of a six-week audit. It was decided that Diouf would take full charge of club business until June at the earliest.
Senior figure
In December Diouf was asked to take charge of the running of the club alongside chief executive Vivian Corzani and financial director Philippe Meurice, and now he becomes the senior figure of that trio. Acariès said: "We concluded that our main priority was sport, and the sporting side is Diouf's."
Joined last May
The Senegalese joined Marseille last May as general manager. The resignations of coach José Anigo and president Christophe Bouchet in November led the club to carry out its internal audit. Philippe Troussier replaced Anigo as Marseille coach and the south-coast team are presently fifth in Ligue 1, ten points adrift of leaders Olympique Lyonnais.
