Fee of €3.6m
The 23-year-old forward was unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday evening following a successful medical earlier in the day. Rangers beat off competition from SL Benfica and VfB Stuttgart for the player after agreeing to a fee of £3.6m. Rangers manager Alex McLeish said of his new acquisition: "He is a player I have admired for a long time."
Available for derby
Buffel, who has signed a four-and-a-half year contract, could make his debut for Rangers in their Scottish Cup third-round tie against arch-rivals Celtic FC on Sunday. He said: "I'm delighted to be joining such a great club and I can't wait to get started. Although I have not played for a couple of weeks I feel strong and ready for Sunday but it will be up to the coach if I play.
Race for title
"I realise it's going to be a hot race for the league title, but I have come here to do something to help Rangers win that title." Rangers are presently second in the Premier League table, three points behind Celtic after 21 matches.
