Lazzari leaves Juventus reeling

Andrea Lazzari's hat-trick helped Atalanta BC to a 3-3 draw at the Stadio Delle Alpi against Juventus FC and a place in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals, while Cagliari Calcio and Udinese Calcio also progressed in dramatic fashion.

Trezeguet return
Trailing 2-0 following the first leg, Juve led three times in Turin but on each occasion Lazzari replied for Atalanta. Juve's French international striker David Trezeguet started after a long spell on the sidelines with a shoulder injury, and the Serie A leaders halved the aggregate deficit within four minutes thanks to Cesare Natali's own goal.

Lazzari levellers
However, Lazzari responded six minutes later and, although Marcelo Zalayeta put Juve back in front in the 33rd minute, Lazzari levelled again just before half-time. Trezeguet made it 3-2 with eleven minutes to go but Juve lost Alessio Tacchinardi to a red card almost immediately and Lazzari completed his hat-trick, and Atalanta's win, in added time.

Cagliari cheer
Cagliari progressed to the quarter-finals on away goals despite a 3-2 loss at S.S. Lazio, the Sicilian side moving through thanks to their 2-1 victory in the first leg. Antonio Filippini gave Lazio an early lead and the Rome club looked set to progress as substitute Tommaso Rocchi increased their advantage four minutes past the hour.

Extra-time drama
However, with nine minutes remaining Cagliari's Daniele Conti struck to take the tie into extra time. In the additional 30 minutes Gianfranco Zola's close-range finish put Cagliari back in front overall, and Rocchi's last-minute winner was not enough.

Quick turnaround
Leading 5-4 after their visit to US Lecce, Udinese took a sixth-minute lead at the Stadio Fruli through David Di Michele, but goals either side of half-time from Mirko Vucinic and Sasa Bjelanovic turned the match in Lecce's favour.

Frantic finale
Cedric Konan and Vucinic again struck in the 82nd and 84th minute to give the visitors a 4-1 lead and, seemingly, a quarter-final berth. However, in an incredible finale, Vincenzo Iaquinta restored Udinese's hopes with two minutes remaining and Di Michele's second two minutes into added time ensured Udinese progressed on away goals in dramatic fashion.

Roma rout
AS Roma overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit in style, winning 5-1 at AC Siena to go through 6-3 overall. Traianos Dellas, Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano, Vincenzo Montella and Daniele Corvia got the goals, with Massimo Maccarone on target for the home side.
