Dortmund departure for Reuter

Former German international Stefan Reuter has quit his job as BV Borussia Dortmund team manager.

Club agreement
Reuter, who was a member of Germany team that won the 1990 FIFA World Cup, asked for the contract that originally tied him to Dortmund until the summer to be terminated yesterday and today the club, with whom he won the 1997 UEFA Champions League, agreed to let him go.

Dortmund stalwart
The former right-back, who played in midfield in towards the end of his career, was co-opted into the Dortmund management structure on retiring from football, having made 307 Bundesliga appearances for the club since joining from Juventus FC in 1992.

Management structure
The former player resigned because he did not believe he could make any significant contribution to the club under the current management structure. His responsibilities have been handed to the club's sporting director, the 38-year-old Michael Zorc.
