Article body
Hannover 96 coach Ewald Lienen has signed a new contract with the Bundesliga club running until 2007.
Two-year extension
The 54-year-old's present deal was due to expire this summer, but last night Lienen and Hannover president Martin Kind finalised a fresh agreement along with assistant coach Michael Frontzeck, who has also agreed a two-year extension.
Successful spell
Lienen - whose CV includes spells at MSV Duisburg, CD Tenerife, FC Hansa Rostock, 1. FC Köln and VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach - took over in March last year following the sacking of Ralf Rangnick. Last season, he steered Hannover away from the relegation zone and they now lie seventh.
Kind words
Kind said: "We are very happy that Ewald Lienen has decided to extend his stay here. He has done an excellent job since taking over and we all hope that he will be very successful in the future."
