Southampton FC manager Harry Redknapp has revisited former club Portsmouth FC to lure midfield player Nigel Quashie to their south-coast rivals in a €3m deal. The 26-year-old Scottish international has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Southampton, who are in the English Premiership relegation zone having won just two league games this season.
Brazilian midfield player Jorge Wagner has become the first of five transfer-listed FC Lokomotiv Moskva players to find a new club. The 26-year-old has signed an 18-month contract with Brazilian side SC Internacional after making just four appearances for the Russian side in 2004. James Obiorah, Ruslan Pimenov, Ruslan Nigmatullin and Leandro are also on the Lokomotiv transfer list.
In France, Austrian international striker Roland Linz has cancelled his one-year loan contract with OGC Nice by mutual consent. The 23-year-old will return to FK Austria Wien after starting just five games this season. At the same time, Nice have signed Brazilian midfield player Ederson from RS Futebol Clube. The 19-year-old joins on loan until the summer, with a view to a permanent move.
Another Ligue 1 side, FC Metz, have parted company with Colombian striker Tressor Moreno six months before his contract was due to expire. The 25-year-old - who arrived in France in 2000/01 - has returned home to join CD Once Caldas, having had loan spells at several Colombian clubs over the past three seasons.
Struggling SC Bastia, meanwhile, have signed Algerian striker Abdelmalek Cherrad from OGC Nice. The 24-year-old started the season at KAA Gent but was dismissed by the Belgian side on 22 November on disciplinary grounds.
Greek sides have been busy in the transfer market, with AEK Athens FC signing Brazilian forward Júlio César from Gil Vicente FC on an initial one-year-contract with the option for a further three years. The 24-year-old scored two goals in 16 matches for the Portuguese Superliga side.
PAOK FC have signed Marcin Mieczel on a three-year contract after the 28-year-old Polish striker was released by Iraklis FC, while Panionios NFC are to sign Moroccan Under-21 international midfield player Yazid Kaïssi for an undisclosed fee from French side RC Lens. Kaïssi has signed a contract with the Alpha Ethniki strugglers until summer.
Scottish Premier League side Dundee FC have signed former Chelsea FC youth player Joel Kitamirike on a free transfer. The 20-year-old defender has signed a two-year deal. Marc Libbra, meanwhile, has left struggling Livingston FC. The 32-year-old striker joined from English side Norwich City FC last summer but will now return to France from Scotland after failing to win a first-team place.
Viborg FF defender Lennart Lynge Larsen has left the Danish Superleague side for Rot-Weiss Essen in Germany. The 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the 2. Bundesliga side, where he will join fellow Danes Peter Foldgast and Bjarne Goldbæk.
Audun Helgason has agreed a three-year deal with Icelandic Premier League champions FH Hafnarfjördur, the club he began his career with 13 years ago. The 30-year-old defender, who has 29 international caps, returns to his homeland after an eight-year absence. He was most recently at Swedish club Landskrona BoIS.
Azerbaijani clubs have been busy signing Georgian players as they prepare for the spring campaign. PFC Neftchi have brought in 23-year-old striker Giorgi Adamia from FC WIT Georgia while 24-year-old Merab Dzodzuashvili has moved from FC Kolkheti-1913 Poti to FK Baku. Dzodzuashvili has signed an 18-month contract.
