Decisive own goal
The French defender gave Liverpool's opponents victory with the only goal of the match six minutes into the second half, inexplicably turning in a low cross from Richard Chaplow to end his side's interest in the competition.
Tricky conditions
Amid strong winds and on a heavy pitch, the team from the Championship – England's second division – coped much better with the conditions, Chaplow and Micah Hyde forcing visiting goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek into early action. A weakened Liverpool side struggled to get into the game, although Florent Sinama-Pongolle headed over shortly before the goal.
Núñez dismissed
Czech international Milan Baroš was introduced as the visitors sought a way back into the match, but it was Chaplow who came closest to a second, shooting just wide with only Dudek to beat. The away team finished with ten men following Antonio Núñez's dismissal for violent conduct in the closing minutes.
