The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who was voted the best young player in the Czech Republic in 2003, has agreed a contract tying him to the Italian club until June 2008. Licka won the Czech title with Baník last season and this term played for the club in UEFA Champions League qualifying and the UEFA Cup.
A step up
"I have opted to join an Italian side because I think Serie A is the best league in the world," Licka said. "I don't know many of my new team-mates but I know Livorno's fans are full of passion and that's obviously very good for the team."
Paulinho purchase
Livorno, who are tenth in Serie A after a 1-0 win against AC Milan last weekend, have also announced the capture of Brazilian forward Paulinho from EC Juventude for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old is currently on duty with Brazil's Under-20 side and will arrive in Tuscany on 6 February.
