Saints saved by Rosenior slip

Members

A late own goal earned Southampton FC a 3-3 draw with Fulham FC but they remain second from bottom.

Late own goal
Although leading 2-1 midway through the first half, Saints lost their way and had Fulham defender Liam Rosenior to thank for the late own goal which earned them a point. Southampton have won only twice in 22 matches and lie three points below fourth-bottom Crystal Palace FC. As for Fulham, the draw lifts them up a place to 15th, with 22 points from 22 matches.

Phillips double
Fulham opened the scoring through a Papa Bouba Diop header in the 20th minute but Southampton restored parity within 60 seconds when Kevin Phillips headed home and then went 2-1 in front after Phillips' second goal of the night on 29 minutes, a lovely curled finish low past Edwin van der Sar.

Radzinski finish
However, Fulham were back on level terms shortly before the break when Steed Malbranque scored following a goalmouth scramble, his shot hitting the ground and looping into the net. Tomasz Radzinski then gave the visitors a 3-2 lead with a fine first-time finish five minutes into the second half but Rosenior's 71st-minute own goal salvaged a point for Harry Redknapp's side.
