Juninho joy
With goalkeeper Grégory Wimbée in inspired form, Metz looked for a long time like coming away from the Stade Gerland with an unlikely point, and it took Brazilian dead-ball specialist Juninho to finally wrong-foot the former Lille stopper with a sublime free-kick in the 84th minute. Substitute Bergougnoux settled the game four minutes later with his second strike this week.
Perfect start
Lyon's next opponents are second-placed Lille, who kept themselves in title contention with their first win at FC Girondins de Bordeaux in almost 40 years. Mathieu Debuchy got the northern side off to the perfect start in the very first minute, before Philippe Brunel and Johan Audel added to the scoreline and Marouane Chamakh hit a late consolation for Bordeaux.
Kallon double
Three points behind Lille, Monaco impressed in their 5-2 demolition of SM Caen, and two-goal Mohamed Kallon took his tally for the season to ten. Maicon, Javier Saviola and Jaroslav Plašil were also on target for the home team, with Cyrille Watier and Reynald Lemaître restoring some pride for Caen.
Akalé opener
Hot on Monaco's heels, Auxerre saw off FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Kanga Akalé and Belgian striker Luigi Pieroni. Sochaux, who had Souleymane Diawara sent off, continue to slip down the table and now lie tenth, one place behind Paris Saint-Germain FC, who lost Lorik Cana to a red card in the 73rd minute of their goalless home draw with Toulouse FC.
Istres triumph
In the bottom half of the table, Xavier Gravelaine and Jean-Louis Gasset enjoyed their first win in charge of FC Istres, a 1-0 victory at RC Lens, and Serge Le Dizet had the same pleasure as his FC Nantes Atlantique side beat Stade Rennais FC 2-0. Meanwhile, RC Strasbourg drew 1-1 with AS Saint-Etienne and AC Ajaccio overcame visitors SC Bastia 1-0 in a Corsican derby marred by crowd trouble. In tomorrow's game, Olympique de Marseille can reclaim fifth place with victory over neighbours OGC Nice.
