Boavista FC duo Ali and Jorge Silva have joined SC Beira-Mar, both on six-month deals with the option of another 12 months. Jorge Silva, capped twice by Portugal, was part of Boavista's Portuguese title-winning team of 2000/01 but had come to the end of his contract with the Porto-based club. Ali, the French left winger, had been on loan at GD Estoril-Praia and the transfer reunites him with Beira-Mar coach Luís Campos, with whom he worked previously at Gil Vicente FC.
Danish Superleague club Viborg FF have signed Brazilian striker Mota on a two-and-a-half year contract from Randers FC. Viborg are fourth in the table and club director Morten Jensen said: "We are ambitious about maintaining our position at the top of the league, and this signing underlines that." Mota, 25, has scored six goals this term for struggling Randers, who entered the winter break one place off the bottom.
In Greece, Iraklis FC have signed Cameroonian international midfield player Joel Epalle on a one-year contract. The 27-year-old was recently released by Panathinaikos FC. AEK Athens FC, meanwhile, have allowed Ghanaian defender Kofi Amponsah to leave the club by mutual consent after two-and-a-half years, thereby freeing up a place in their squad for another player from outside the European Union.
