AC Milan suffered a second recent setback to their title hopes as they lost to Bologna FC and Juventus FC won.

By Paolo Corradini

AC Milan suffered a second serious setback to their Serie A title hopes in the space of eight days as they lost 1-0 at home to Bologna FC.

Locatelli heroics
Having been beaten by AS Livorno Calcio last week, Milan fell behind when Tomas Locatelli struck after 27 minutes. The champions' hopes of drawing level took a blow when Andriy Shevchenko went off just before half-time and Bologna stood firm.

Juve triumph
Juventus FC took advantage, moving eight points clear with a routine 2-1 home victory against Atalanta BC. Ruben Oliveira and Alessandro Del Piero scored for Juve before Lilian Thuram's late own goal at the death halved the margin of victory.

Vieri strikes
Two goals from Christian Vieri helped unbeaten FC Internazionale Milano climb up to third with an impressive away win against US Città di Palermo. Vieri put the visitors ahead with a close-range header after five minutes, when Palermo's Matteo Guardalben failed to hold a powerful long-distance free-kick from Juan Sebastián Veron, and doubled the lead in the 58th minute.

Roma recovery
AS Roma produced the comeback of the day as they came from 2-0 down at half-time to defeat FC Messina Peloro 3-2 at the Stadio Olimpico. Riccardo Zampagna and Alessandro Parisi were on target for the visitors before Roma came back strongly in the second half, when Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano and Brazilian substitute Mancini turned the game in their favour.

César sent off
Reggina Calcio also overturned a deficit to win 2-1 against S.S. Lazio 2-1, for whom César opened the scoring with a fantastic tenth-minute goal. The scorer's sending-off before half-time sparked a Reggina revival, however, and the home side triumphed thanks to goals from Emiliano Bonazzoli and Gaetano De Rosa.

Esposito landmark
Elsewhere, Fausto Rossini was on target as Sampdoria UC drew 1-1 with AC Siena, US Lecce won 1-0 against Brescia Calcio and Mauro Esposito's tenth goal of the season was enough to give Cagliari Calcio victory against Fiorentina ACF.
