Club Atlético de Madrid could be without talisman Fernando Torres for tonight's Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg against CD Numancia at the Vicente Calderón stadium.
Throat infection
Torres is reported to be recovering from a throat infection and missed training yesterday. With fellow striker Braulio Nóbrega already ruled out, Atlético coach César Ferrando may call up youth team player Dani López to partner Salva Ballesta in attack.
Up for the cup
Even if Torres does fail to make the lineup against Numancia, he is confident his team can advance to the semi-finals after a goalless first leg. "The players are very excited about this competition," the 20-year-old said. "We know we are facing a dangerous opponent but we are confident of getting through. We must stay together and maintain a positive outlook because we have a good chance of success." Atlético are chasing an 18th cup final appearance.
Tevenet out
Despite lying seven points adrift at the bottom of the Primera División, Numancia have enjoyed an excellent cup run with victories against Elche CF, Córdoba CF and CD Recreación. However, their hopes of progress are hindered by the fact coach Máximo Hernández will be missing striker Luis Tevenet through suspension.
