Marchena commits to Valencia

The 25-year-old centre-back, who began his career with Sevilla FC, has become a regular for club and country since arriving at the Mestalla from SL Benfica in 2001. His existing deal was due to expire in summer 2006, but he was more than happy to agree a new contract with the reigning Primera División champions.
'Marvellous years'
Marchena said: "I am very happy with the new agreement and would like to thank the chairman and everyone at the club for the confidence they have shown. I have always declared that my intention was to stay at Valencia. I have enjoyed some marvellous years here and hope to win many more trophies."
