AZ Alkmaar have secured the services of 21-year-old midfield player Danny Mathijssen from Dutch rivals Willem II for an undisclosed fee.
'Welcome reinforcement'
Mathijssen's contract, which commences on 1 July, will run for three years until the summer of 2008 and Alkmaar technical manager Martin van Geel is happy with his new signing. "First we reached an agreement with Willem II about the transfer fee and then very quickly with Danny," he said. "He can play on both sides of midfield and is a welcome reinforcement to our squad."
Old friends
Mathijssen, a regular at Willem II over the past four seasons, will be reunited with a number of former team-mates at Alkmaar, including Tarik Sektioui, Denny Landzaat, Kew Jaliens and Joris Mathijsen. UEFA Cup hopefuls Alkmaar currently sit second in the Eredivisie table.
