Besiktas JK were held to a goalless draw by Ankara side Gençlerbirligi SK in a rearranged Turkish Superleague fixture on Wednesday after the first game between the two sides had been declared void due to an officiating error.
Closed doors
The first game, on 6 February, ended 1-1 but the result was cancelled after the referee blew the whistle several times before Gençlerbirligi scored from a free-kick. Furthermore, tonight's game was played behind closed doors at the Inönü stadium due to a ban imposed on Besiktas fans.
Fair result
A draw was a fair result in a game bereft of chances, much to the frustration of the home side Besiktas. The Istanbul club's coach, Riza Çalimbay, brought Tümer Metin, Ahmet Yildirim and Ahmed Hassan into the side to try and improve his team's form, but the changes had little effect.
Ankaragücü late show
In Wednesday's other fixture MKE Ankaragücü overcame lowly Istanbulspor AS 2-1 in Istanbul's Vefa stadium. After a quiet first half, Hüzeyfe Dogan put Ankaragücü ahead with a powerful shot before Aleksandar Yordanov levelled the score with eleven minutes to play. Ankaragücü's Effa Owona scored the decisive goal seven minutes later.
