Duff assist
Bryan Robson's side came to Stamford Bridge in search of their first away win of the season but faced an uphill task once Drogba had turned in Damien Duff's cross on 26 minutes. West Brom have never recovered from conceding first to win a Premiership encounter and never looked likely to do so. "The game was difficult but the three points were the most important thing," said Chelsea midfield player Claude Makelele, hinting that his side are not resting on their laurels. "The title is not won yet - the championship is long."
Relegation zone
Chelsea's victory, their 12th 1-0 triumph in all competitions this season, extended the London club's unbeaten Premiership run to 20 matches and left West Brom five points adrift of safety in the relegation zone. Robson reflected: "We're playing one of the best teams in Europe so I've got to look at the positives and be pleased with our second-half performance. We'll keep fighting until the end of the season."
