Karel Geraerts' goal against RAA Louviéroise helped R. Standard de Liège climb up to third in Belgium.

R. Standard de Liège climbed above KRC Genk into third spot in the Belgian First Division after defeating RAA Louviéroise 1-0 on Wednesday.

Karel Geraerts got the only goal of the game on 69 minutes as Standard made the most of their man advantage after Yero Dia had been sent off for La Louvière four minutes before half-time. The victory was Standard's third consecutive win in the league, and they are now unbeaten in eleven First Division matches.

K. Lierse SK advanced to the semi-finals of the Belgian Cup on away goals after a thrilling 2-0 victory against R. Charleroi SC, the home side fighting back from a 3-1 first-leg deficit. Australian Archie Thompson scored a goal in each half before Charleroi's Frank Defays was sent off with five minutes to play as Lierse held on.

Lierse are joined in the last four by KSC Lokeren OV, who defeated KAA Gent 1-0 away thanks to R. Rúnar Kristinsson's ninth-minute goal and therefore advanced 3-1 on aggregate.
