Second-division Kastoria FC claimed a deserved 2-1 victory at home to Olympiacos CFP in the first leg of their Greek Cup quarter-final as Panionios NFC and AEK Athens FC played out a goalless draw.
Soultanidis strikes twice
Kastoria, beaten semi-finalists against Olympiacos last season, took the lead on 17 minutes when Nikolaos Soultanidis found the target from close range. In snowy conditions, Dušan Bajevic's side equalised eleven minutes later as Ivan Režic's cross was headed in by D'Acol. However, Soultanidis had the last word seven minutes into the second half for the 1980 cup winners against a team with 20 victories in this competition.
Goalless tie
Meanwhile, AEK came away from Panionios with a draw, but only after visiting goalkeeper Chrisostomos Mihailidis made a fine save from Mário Breška on 40 minutes, with home custodian Jaroslav Drobný then spectacularly denying Julio César's free-kick not long before the break.
Remaining quarter-finals
The remaining quarter-final first legs, pitting Aris Thessaloniki FC against Apollon Kalamarias FC, and second division Larissa FC against Xanthi FC, are played next week with no dates yet set for the four return matches.
