CF Estrela da Amadora shocked CF Os Belenenses on penalties to reach the Portuguese Cup semi-finals.

By Onofre Costa

Second division side CF Estrela da Amadora shocked SuperLiga team CF Os Belenenses on penalties to reach the Portuguese Cup semi-finals along with Boavista FC and Vitória FC.

Wilson denied
After 120 goalless minutes at Estrela, it took 16 penalties to settle the shoot-out before Angolan centre-back Wilson was denied by home goalkeeper Paulo Lopes. The result gives the 8-7 spot-kick victors hope of repeating their 1990 triumph in this competition.

Boavista through
Boavista, searching for a sixth Portuguese Cup, prevailed 2-0 at CS Marítimo. Milhazes put Boavista into a third-minute lead, and late in the first half Wénio was sent off for the home team. Marítimo were reduced to nine men after the hour when Tonel was also shown a red card, and in the final minute Zé Manel confirmed Boastiva's win.

Setúbal drama
Setúbal's two cup triumphs came in the 1960s when they reached five finals in all, but another honour could be in sight thanks to their dramatic 3-2 victory against visitors SC Braga. Bruno Moraes struck for the home side on 15 minutes and Meyong doubled the lead three minutes into the second half. Although an own goal was followed by a Wender equaliser to draw Braga level with 15 minutes left, Igor struck late on to settle the tie

Benfica tie
The fourth semi-final slot will be filled on Thursday night when holders SL Benfica welcome SC Beira Mar to the Estádio da Luz.
