Spartak secure Kovác signature

Members

FC Spartak Moskva have captured the Czech international defender Radoslav Kovác from AC Sparta Praha.

Timely arrival
The versatile defender passed a medical today and will add the finishing touches to his contract on Wednesday, three days before Spartak kick off their Premier-Liga season at home to PFC CSKA Moskva. Kovác joins from runaway Czech First Division leaders Sparta, for whom he scored three times in 46 matches after moving from SK Sigma Olomouc in 2003.

International debut
The 25-year-old was a precocious talent, making his first-team debut aged 16, and being part of the Czech Republic side that won the 2002 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He did not progress to the senior team until last October, however, appearing as a substitute in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Romania. He has since added two more caps.

Influx of talent
Kovác becomes the latest addition to the Spartak ranks, following fellow Czech international Martin Jiránek, Russian youngsters Evgueny Shpedt and Dmitri Khomich, and Latvian international Andrejs Rubins to the Luzhniki stadium.
