Larissa FC continued the fine form of second division clubs in the Greek Cup quarter-finals tonight with a hard-fought 1-0 first-leg victory at home to Xanthi FC.
Penalty converted
Ex-Aris Thessaloniki FC man Angelos Digozis struck the only goal from the penalty spot on 20 minutes after Antonios Makris was fouled by visiting goalkeeper Petr Pizanovski. Top-flight Xanthi were reduced to ten men in the 62nd minute when Paraskevas Antzas received his second yellow card. Larissa, cup winners in 1985, visit Xanthi on 23 March for the second leg, the day before their divisional rivals Kastoria FC take a 2-1 lead to Olympiacos CFP.
Goalless tie
On Wednesday night, Aris and Apollon Kalamarias FC played out a 0-0 draw. They will meet again on 17 March. Twenty-four hours earlier, Panionios NFC travel to AEK Athens FC with their tie also scoreless from last week's first leg. In the semi-finals, Kalamarias or Aris will play Larissa or Xanthi, while the winner of Kastoria's match with Olympiacos will face AEK or Panionios.
