Bonde focuses firmly on EURO

Denmark will name their UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ squad on Monday after two friendly internationals.

By Peter Bruun

After a disappointing Algarve Cup and a 1-0 defeat in Italy, Denmark's recently-appointed coach Peter Bonde has ceased experimenting and named a tried-and-tested squad for this week's friendlies against Switzerland and Sweden.

No debutants
The Danes welcome Switzerland to the Central Jutland town of Vildbjerg for that venue's first international on Wednesday before a trip to Växjø to meet a nation whom they play again in their opening UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2005™ Group A game in England on 4 June. There are no debutants in Bonde's party, but captain Katrine Pedersen will miss the match in Sweden due to club commitments in Norway with IF Fløya.

Familiar structure
Bonde, who succeeded Poul Højmose last month and took charge for the first time against Italy a fortnight ago, said: "The time for experiments is passed. Instead we will maintain the structure the players know, and work within that in the last three warm-up matches.

Differing aims
"I have to admit that I do not know much about Switzerland, but I will make no secret of the fact that a win here is a must. Against Sweden the focus will not so much be on the result, but more on getting as many players in action as possible." Denmark's final pre-EURO friendly is against Canada on 25 May in Copenhagen.
