'No hope'
"Our goal was to qualify for next season's UEFA Cup," said 44-year-old Vazakas, who had led tenth-placed Panionios to six wins, nine draws and seven defeats since taking over from Karol Pecze in October. "After our defeat today, we have no hope of achieving that. In such cases, the responsibility lies with the head coach and I accept that."
Barbalias in line
The resignation was accepted by the Panionios board, who are expected to install Vazakas's assistant, Dimitrios Barbalias, as caretaker coach for the remaining four league games of the season.
