VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach have parted company with their sporting director and sacked one of their players on a busy day for the Bundesliga strugglers. The 41-year-old Christian Hochstätter left his managerial position by mutual consent, following coach Dick Advocaat's resignation on Monday and with the team hovering one place and one point above the relegation zone. Former VfL Wolfsburg sporting director Peter Pander is expected to be named as his successor. In addition, Mönchengladbach have dismissed Brazilian defender Marcelo Pletsch. The 28-year-old, under contract until 2007, was fired after making derogatory comments about Hochstätter. Pletsch, who played 142 games in six seasons with the club, has also threatened to sue Hochstätter for apparently accusing him of deliberately giving away two goals in the 2-2 draw against VfL Bochum 1848 on 3 April. Meanwhile, Mönchengladbach's No2 goalkeeper, 26-year-old Michael Melka, has extended his contract by two years until June 2007.

The Bundesliga's second-placed team, FC Schalke 04, will allow defender Fabian Lamotte to join TSV 1860 München on a free transfer at the season's end. The 22-year-old has accepted a two-year contract offer from 1860 who are currently chasing promotion from the 2. Bundesliga.

Slovakian Superleague leaders FC Artmedia Bratislava have reached the final of the Slovakian Cup, defeating second-division side Steel Trans Licartovce 4-2 on aggregate in a repeat of last year's final. In the other semi-final, defending champions MŠK Žilina went down 2-1 away to FK Dukla Banská Bystrica to lose by the same aggregate scoreline.
