Currently fourth in Ligue 1, Didier Deschamps' side were due to play host to second-placed LOSC Lille Métropole at the Stade Louis II on Saturday. However, the death this morning of the principality's sovereign following a long illness, and at the age of 81, has forced a change.
Footballing role
The prince, who was Europe's longest-serving monarch having taken the throne in 1949, had a long association with the club, and accordingly Monaco have called off the match. No new date has been announced for the fixture which could be crucial in the allocation of next season's UEFA Champions League slots.
