AFC Ajax defeated Willem II 2-0 to give Danny Blind his first Eredivisie win as coach and move up to third.

By Berend Scholten

After defeats against PSV Eindhoven and SC Heerenveen, AFC Ajax have finally won a match under coach Danny Blind after defeating Eredivisie visitors Willem II 2-0.

Headed goals
The home side took the lead after 20 minutes when Mauro Rosales, who was later to leave the match injured on a stretcher, sent a fine cross for Nicolae Mitea to head in. In the final minute of the match, all doubts about the result were removed when Ryan Babel got his head to Wesley Sneijder's free-kick.

Alkmaar ahead
Tonight's result took Ajax back above Feyenoord into third place. However, they are still 14 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven and have four to make up to overhaul AZ Alkmaar in the second UEFA Champions League qualifying place - and the UEFA Cup contenders have eight games left to Ajax's seven.
