KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen clinched the fourth and last place in the Belgian Cup semi-finals as extra-time goals from Cadu and Kenny Thompson finally ended KRC Genk's challenge in tonight's quarter-final second leg.
Engelaar opener
The first match had ended in 1-1, with Germinal Beerschot holding a slender advantage having scored an away goal. That evaporated in the opening stages of the second period, Orlando Engelaar capitalising on a slip by home defender Dickson Agyeman to give the visitors the lead.
Cavens the key
Germinal Beerschot threw everything forward in the closing stages and were rewarded with just a minute to go, Jurgen Cavens curling a fine shot around goalkeeper Jan Moons to take the tie into extra time. The score stayed the same at half-time in the additional 30 minutes, but in the 107th minute Cadu headed in Cavens' free-kick to give the home team the edge, and Thompson sealed their progress six minutes later.
Lokeren opposition
Germinal Beerschot will therefore meet KSC Lokeren OV in the two-legged semi-finals, which will be played played on 20 April and 11 May, while Club Brugge KV meet K. Lierse SK in the other tie.
