Feyenoord's UEFA Champions League qualification hopes suffered a setback as FC Den Bosch ran out 4-1 winners.

Feyenoord's hopes of claiming the Eredivisie's second UEFA Champions League qualification berth suffered a significant setback as bottom side FC Den Bosch claimed a surprise 4-1 victory on Wednesday evening.

Pivotal point
The game's defining moment arrived in the 17th minute, as Berry Powel broke clear for the home team only to be brought down by Pascal Bosschaart. The Feyenoord midfield player was shown a red card and, although the resulting free-kick was initially blocked, from the rebound Gijs Cales opened the scoring.

Van der Laak double
Ruud Gullit's ten-man team refused to concede defeat and drew level three minutes past the hour, André Bahia heading the visitors back into contention. Parity lasted only eleven minutes, however, as Koen van der Laak's shot found the top corner to make it 2-1, and four minutes later the same player scored Den Bosch's third.

Late fourth
Van der Laak had a golden opportunity to complete his hat-trick two minutes from time only for goalkeeper Gábor Babos to keep out his penalty, but from the rebound Steve Olfers dived to head in the final goal of the night. Feyenoord therefore remained three points behind third-placed AFC Ajax, who visit the De Kuip stadium this Sunday.
