Pavel Nedved ensured Juventus FC moved back level with AC Milan at the Serie A summit by scoring the only goal of the game five minutes from time against S.S. Lazio on Sunday night.

Deadlock broken
Milan had moved three points clear on Saturday and it looked as though the Bianconeri would have to settle for a point in Rome until former Lazio midfield player Nedved broke the deadlock on 85 minutes. The Czech playmaker dragged the ball out wide in a crowded area before unleashing a left-footed effort into the roof of the net. Juve's next away game is the trip to face Milan on 8 May.

Sampdoria soaring
Earlier in the day, UC Sampdoria returned to fourth place after defeating AS Roma 2-1 at home thanks to a goal from Max Tonetto and a penalty from Francesco Flachi. Serie A top scorer Vincenzo Montella's 21st goal of the season from the penalty spot came too late to rescue Roma.

Rafael winner
FC Messina Peloro came from behind to end FC Internazionale Milano's unbeaten away run. Argentinean forward Julio Cruz put the Nerazzurri ahead just after the break but Arturo Di Napoli restored parity 15 minutes later and a late goal from substitute Rafael three minutes into added time gave the Sicilian side all three points. AS Livorno Calcio climbed into seventh, level with Messina, thanks a 1-0 win against US Lecce.

Atalanta joy
Luigi Di Biagio's third goal in a week and a strike from Marius Stankevicius gave Brescia Calcio a crucial 2-0 win against Reggina while Luigi Sala's last-gasp effort earned bottom-side Atalanta BC a 1-0 victory against US Città di Palermo to keep alive their hopes of survival.

Fiorentina fears
ACF Fiorentina remain second from the bottom, level on points with UEFA Cup semmi-finalists Parma FC, after being held to a goalless draw at Bologna FC while 15th-placed AC Chievo Verona were held to a 1-1 draw by Cagliari Calcio, Massimo Gobbi's third goal of the season cancelling out Sergio Pelissier's earlier effort.
