Article body
Stunning free-kick
Kieran Richardson's 32nd-minute free-kick had given Bryan Robson's team the initiative but Brett Emerton restored parity just after the hour to restrict West Brom to a single point and leave them entrenched in a battle to avoid the drop. Richardson's stunning free-kick came after Ryan Nelson fouled Geoff Horsfield on the edge of the area but the home side failed to push on and seal victory, instead allowing Rovers to rally.
Emerton leveller
Jon Stead hit the post before Emerton converted a Morten Gamst Pedersen cross. Pedersen and Robbie Savage both had chances to win the game for Mark Hughes's team but West Brom held on for a point to join Crystal Palace FC and Norwich City FC on 30 points with three matches remaining. Southampton FC, on 28 points, stay bottom of the table.
