Martins equaliser earns Inter draw

Members

Obafemi Martins gave FC Internazionale Milano a 1-1 draw at Cagliari Calcio in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg.

Trademark free-kick
Cagliari made the breakthrough in the second half, following an opening period in which Antonio Langella twice went close for the home team while Inter's Adriano missed two inviting opportunities. Zola struck with a trademark free-kick on 50 minutes.

Powerful equaliser
The lead lasted just two minutes, as Martins responded with a powerful strike from the edge of the penalty area. The goal signalled a dominant spell for the away side, Adriano's long-range effort forcing a fine stop from Cagliari goalkeeper Alex Brunner, though at the other end Zola went close with another set-piece.

Vieri miss
Inter substitute Christian Vieri might have won the tie late on, but Roberto Mancini's men will nevertheless be optimistic of completing the job when the clubs meet for the second leg at the San Siro on 19 May.
