Stevens on the road to Roda

Members

Huub Stevens has been named coach of Roda JC on a two-year deal, just after leading 1. FC Köln to promotion.

German spell
He returns to the Netherlands after an eight-year spell in Germany, succeeding Wiljan Vloet at the Eredivisie club. Raymond Atteveld will be his assistant and Ruud Hesp has been named team manager.

UEFA Cup winner
Stevens coached Roda between 1993 and 1997, leading the Kerkrade side to second place behind AFC Ajax in 1995. He then left for FC Schalke 04, with whom he won the UEFA Cup in 1997 then claimed a runners-up berth in the Bundesliga four years later.

Hertha disappointment
The 51-year-old quit Schalke for Hertha BSC Berlin in August 2002, steering the team to fifth position in the Bundesliga and into the UEFA Cup in his first season, but a disappointing run of results prompted his departure in December 2003.

Köln promotion
Stevens subsequently joined 1. FC Köln, whom he guided to promotion to the top flight in 2004/05, before leaving for Roda to be nearer his home in Sittard. Roda finished eighth in the Eredivisie this term.
