Baník claim Czech Cup

Final disappointment
Having lost to AC Sparta Praha in last year's final, the Ostrava team were especially keen to claim the trophy for the first time. Midfield player Frantisek Metelka opened the scoring for Baník nine minutes into the second half, and a second goal from forward Michal Papadopulos two minutes before the end of normal time wrapped up the win.

UEFA Cup place
Although midfield player Richard Dostálek gave Slovácko late hope by reducing the arrears in the final minute Baník held firm, and, having finished seventh in the Czech First Division, will play in the UEFA Cup next season.
