Aberdeen FC have made their first summer signing by bringing Dunfermline AFC's Scottish international midfielder Barry Nicholson to Pittodrie for €370,000. He has agreed a three-year deal with the Dons. Elsewhere in Scotland, 34-year-old midfielder Scott MacKenzie has signed a new one-year contract at promoted Falkirk FC.
In France, ES Troyes Aube Champagne have celebrated their promotion to Ligue 1 by signing four players. Midfielders Eloge Enza-Yamissi from Nîmes Olympique SC and Gaël Danic from Grenoble Foot 38 have penned three-year contracts, while goalkeeper Ronan Le Crom and defender Auriol Guillaume have joined from EA Guingamp on two and one-year deals respectively.
In Portugal, 33-year-old Dutch defender Mitchell van der Gaag and Angola-born goalkeeper Nélson have both agreed one-year extensions at CS Marítimo. Nélson is 37 but convinced the club that he was "still able to play at the highest level" as they finished seventh in the SuperLiga.
CF Os Belenenses have signed Vitória FC striker Albert Meyong. The 24-year-old Cameroonian has inked a two-year deal with the Lisbon side, who have also taken on 24-year-old former French youth international Hassan Ahamada from FC Nantes Atlantique. The forward spent the first half of 2005 on loan at SC Beira-Mar and his contract runs for two seasons.
Avram Glazer, Bryan Glazer and Joel Glazer have joined the board at Manchester United FC following Malcolm Glazer's takeover of the Premiership club. Meantime, Roy Gardner has resigned as chairman and Ian Much and Jim O'Neill have stepped down as non-executive directors.
