George Weah, the former FIFA World Player of the Year, scored a hat-trick in his farewell match at Olympique de Marseille's Stade Vélodrome on Saturday. "I wanted to score in my last match and did so three times. I'm so happy," said the 38-year-old who played one half for each team as Weah Friends beat an All-Star XI 9-8. The former AC Milan and Liberia forward plans to contest the presidential election in the west African country in October. Zinedine Zidane, Andriy Shevchenko, Samuel Eto'o and Didier Drogba all took part in the game.
Croatian striker Goran Tomic has signed a three-year deal with Belgian side K. Lierse SK. The 28-year-old was out of contract at SV Austria Salzburg, after a four-season spell at the Casino stadium blighted by injury. Tomic scored 19 goals in 64 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga and his arrival in Belgium will provide consolation for Lierse following the departure of winger Laurent Delorge to RSC Anderlecht.
In Greece, Ionikos FC have unveiled former player Athanasios Tsiolis as their new coach following Vangelis Vlahos's departure last month. The 45-year-old Tsiolis, who has also coached Kalamata FC and Paniliakos FC, said: "I feel delighted to be back at Ionikos after so many years. I will endeavour to lead the team back where they belong." Ionikos have also handed Albanian goalkeeper Arjan Bekiaj a one-year contract extension.
Gary Mason and Andy Tod have agreed to extend their careers at Scottish Premier League side Dunfermline AFC. Midfielder Mason, 25, a regular since joining from Manchester City FC in December 2000, has signed a two-year deal. The versatile Tod, 33, has committed to another season at East End Park, his 12th in three spells with the club.
Manchester United FC midfielder Michael Stewart has been told he will not be offered a new loan deal with Edinburgh outfit Heart of Midlothian FC. The 24-year-old Scottish international agreed a wage cut to join Hearts on loan last season, but made only seven appearances. "Michael is a decent player, but he's been really unlucky," said Hearts caretaker manager John McGlyn. "He seems to have gone from one niggling problem to another and it's made it very difficult for him."
