The 28-year-old defender cum midfielder was carried off 26 minutes into the Netherlands' 4-0 FIFA World Cup win in Finland last night. He was immediately taken to hospital in Helsinki, and coach Marco van Basten confirmed: "He has broken his calf bone. That will keep him out for five to six weeks minimum."
Successful season
Lucius, who helped PSV to the Dutch domestic double and UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2004/05, will miss the start of pre-season training in early July. However, he has until the second week of September to return to full fitness in time for the Champions League group stage.
