One-year deals
Defender Robbie Elliott, striker Michael Chopra and goalkeeper Tony Caig have all signed one-year deals with the English Premiership club. Elliott, 31, can play at left-back or centre-half and has captained the team, while youth product Chopra is a former English Under-21 international who blossomed during a successful loan spell at Barnsley FC last season. Caig, 31, has not made a first-team appearance since joining from Hibernian FC in January 2003.
Dubnica in control
Beaten finalists in 2001, Newcastle begin their second Intertoto Cup campaign next weekend in the third round. On Saturday they will discover their opponents, with FK ZTS Dubnica 4-0 up against Turkey's BB Ankaraspor ahead of the second leg in Slovakia.
