Málaga CF striker Paulo Wanchope is another player leaving Spain as he travels to Qatar-based Al-Gharrafa Sports Club. The Costa Rican international, 29, had a season remaining on his contract with Málaga, where he scored six goals in 25 league games. Wanchope was previously with Manchester City FC, West Ham United FC and Derby County FC in England.
One man heading to the country is Stéphane Dalmat, who joins Real Racing Club Santander on a five-year deal from FC Internazionale Milano. The French midfielder, 26, had been told he was not part of Inter coach Roberto Mancini's plans, having returned to Italy after loan spells at Tottenham Hotspur FC and Toulouse FC. Dalmat's arrival follows the presentation of Racing's new Brazilian Felipe Melo, the 21-year-old former Grêmio FBPA and RCD Mallorca midfielder having signed a four-year contract.
Werder Bremen striker Miroslav Klose will return to training on Thursday after recovering from the knee operation he underwent in June. Klose said: "It is a big relief. I am very happy to come back so soon." The 27-year-old could feature for Thomas Schaaf's side on 6 August when they begin their Bundesliga campaign against DSC Arminia Bielefeld.
English Premiership newcomers Wigan Athletic FC have recruited 20-year-old full-back Ryan Taylor in a €1.8m deal from Tranmere Rovers FC. Taylor has agreed a four-year contract, having passed a medical this morning.
Danish Superleague club Esbjerg fB have loaned striker and former captain Jess Thorup, 35, to Norwegian top-flight outfit Ham-Kam Fotball for the rest of the 2005 season.
In France, AS Saint-Etienne centre-back Stéphane Hernandez has transferred to Ligue 2 side FC Lorient on a two-year deal. The 25-year-old will hope for more first-team opportunities at his new club after becoming Lorient's second high-profile signing in as many days following the capture of AJ Auxerre defender David Recorbet.
The Royal Netherlands Football Association board of arbitration has ruled in favour of PSV Eindhoven in their case against former player Leandro do Bomfim. The 21-year-old Brazilian was contracted to PSV until 2007, but moved to FC Porto last season without their permission. PSV now expect to be able to demand compensation from Porto.
The 38-year-old Ivan Tabanov has been appointed coach of CSF Zimbru Chisinau on a full-time basis. Tabanov won five Moldova caps during a long playing career, before moving into coaching with FC Congaz in 2002. He joined Zimbru as reserve coach in 2003, then assisted boss Gheorghe Niculescu before taking over as caretaker following Niculescu's dismissal in May.
Hungarian striker József Sebők has returned to Cypriot club AEL Limassol FC on a one-year contract from Zalaegerszegi TE. The 30-year-old scored 31 goals in 75 games for AEL between 2000 and 2003.
