Pellegrino plumps for Alavés

Argentinian defender Mauricio Pellegrino has joined Deportivo Alavés ahead of their first season back in the Primera División. The 33-year-old centre-back was released by Liverpool FC at the end of last season after playing 12 Premiership games for the club following an autumn 2004 move from Valencia CF, with whom he was twice on the losing side in the UEFA Champions League final.

Finnish Veikkausliga side Rovaniemi PS have sacked coach Mika Lumijärvi after a poor start to the season. The side are bottom of the table having won just one of their opening eleven matches. Goalkeeping coach Matti Vikman will take temporary charge of first-team affairs with the help of assistant coach coach Olavi Tammimies and managing director Jouko Kiistala.

NK Dinamo Zagreb have secured the services of Australian defender Eddy Bosnar on a three-year contract, four years after releasing him to SK Sturm Graz. The 25-year-old centre-half played 53 games in the Austrian Bundesliga following an unsuccessful spell at English side Everton FC.
