The 47-year-old has never coached in Serie A before, having previously been in charge of Serie B side US Triestina Calcio. Arrigoni left Cagliari in June after just one season at the helm. He guided them to a 12th-place finish in their first term back in the top flight after a four-year exile, although the Sardinian team were only two points above the relegation zone.
