Former French international Lamouchi returns to Ligue 1 after five years in Italy with Parma FC and FC Internazionale Milano, with last season spent on loan at Genoa 1893. The 33-year-old midfielder was key to that team's promotion to Serie A, and Marseille hope he can have a similar impact at the Stade Vélodrome.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old Peruvian striker Mendoza joins from FC Metalurh Donetsk after impressing in the Ukrainian club's third-place finish last term. With 12 goals in 21 games he continued the form that brought 54 strikes in 149 matches for previous side Club Brugge KV. Neither will be registered in time to play on Saturday when Marseille begin their UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign against BSC Young Boys.
