Karadzic takes top job

Members

Tomislav Karadzic has been appointed interim president of the Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro.

Stojkovic switch
Former international Dragan Stojkovic's period in office will end in September, when he will become president of FK Crvena Zvezda. Karadzic is scheduled to stay in charge until after the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Political changes
By that stage the political situation in Serbia and Montenegro should be clearer, given the possibility of Montenegro holding a referendum on the issue of independence. A 'yes' vote would mean the FSSCG ceasing to exist in its present form.

Assembly retained
Should Serbia and Montenegro remain unified, elections for the next FA president will be held next summer. All the current assembly members will have a one-year extension of their mandates until the picture becomes clearer.

World Cup goal
Karadzic, who is also president of FK Vojvodina, said: "Our strategic goal is to qualify for the World Cup. Our other goals are to try and resolve all the problems facing domestic football, from financial to organisational."

League changes
The FSSCG's Executive Committee has also adopted a new name for the Serbia and Montenegro top flight: the Super Liga. From the start of the 2006/07 season the Super Liga will comprise 12 clubs, meaning six teams will be relegated at the end of the coming campaign. Two sides from the second division will be promoted.
