Maltese football mourns Cluett

Members

The 69-times Maltese international keeper and former Floriana FC favourite David Cluett has died aged 39.

Serious illness
Regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers ever to grace Maltese football, Cluett passed away in a hospital in England on Sunday after losing his battle against a serious illness.

Record breaker
Having started out at Melita FC, Cluett spent the best years of his career with Floriana FC and went 736 minutes without conceding a goal in the 1993/94 season - a national record to this day.

International class
He made his international debut in a 2-2 draw against Portugal on 29 March 1987 and went on to win a further 68 caps. He later had spells with Gozo FC and Birkirkara FC before returning to Floriana. Last season he was goalkeeping coach at Msida St. Joseph FC.
