Intertoto semi-finals in sight

Olympique de Marseille are on the verge of the semi-finals but BV Borussia Dortmund have much to do.

Koller error
The German club must score against SK Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Republic to stay in contention after Jan Koller's own goal against his compatriots gave Sigma a 1-1 draw and a crucial away goal. Dortmund missed a host of opportunities last week and coach Bert van Marwijk will hope his team are less profligate as they attempt to book a meeting with Bundesliga rivals and another former European champion, Hamburger SV.

Narrow leads
Hamburg welcome Portuguese side UD Leiria to the AOL Arena looking to defend the one-goal lead that midfielder Piotr Trochowski earned in the first encounter. RC Deportivo La Coruña also hold the initiative in their match at NK Slaven Koprivnica in Croatia, courtesy of Rubén Castro's late strike in Spain.

Newcastle advantage
A draw would be enough for Deportivo to secure a semi-final against FK ZTS Dubnica or Newcastle United FC. The English outfit take a 3-1 advantage home to St James' Park after Michael Chopra and Charles N'Zogbia scored inside the first six minutes against the Slovakian part-timers - but will again be without injured Scott Parker and Titus Bramble.

Finely-poised games
If that game appears a foregone conclusion, the Valencia CF-KAA Gent tie is finely poised after last week's stalemate in Belgium. The victors will take on Roda JC or Czech side FC Slovan Liberec, who go into their match in the Netherlands level-pegging at 0-0.

Marseille task
There will be three Intertoto Cup encounters in France. Marseille edged a five-goal thriller against Young Boys in Berne last weekend, with €7m signing Mamadou Niang registering, and win or draw at the Stade Vélodrome, they will likely face S.S. Lazio - 3-0 first leg winners against Finland's Tampere United in Italy - in the semi-finals.

Cluj ambition
Surprise package CFR Cluj, who eliminated Athletic Club Bilbao on penalties, will be seeking another big-name scalp when they engage AS Saint-Etienne. The teams drew 1-1 in Romania and whoever prevails in the return will probably tackle FK Žalgiris Vilnius, who defend a 3-1 cushion against Greece's Egaleo FC in Lithuania.

Wolfsburg win
Finally, RC Lens still have it all to do after a last-minute Mirko Plantic goal gave NK Varteks a 1-1 first-leg draw in Croatia. Both sides will be following events between VfL Wolfsburg and IFK Göteborg - one of whom await in the semi-finals, with the Bundesliga club the more likely as they take a 2-0 advantage into the home leg.
