Article body
Two-time UEFA Cup winners IFK Göteborg will meet VfL Wolfsburg in the third round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup after defeating Hungarian side Lombard-Pápa TFC 1-0 on Saturday to advance 4-2 on aggregate.
Last-gasp winner
Teenage Swedish forward Marcus Berg struck for the Allsvenskan side in the last minute to seal a 1-0 home victory for IFK, who now meet Wolfsburg after the German Bundesliga side won 3-1 in Austria to progress 5-3 overall.
Dubnica triumph
Slovakian side FK ZTS Dubnica will play Newcastle United FC in the third round after defeating Turkey's BB Ankaraspor 4-1 on aggregate. Silvino Joao De Carvalho got the only goal of the second leg for Ankaraspor mid-way through the second half, but it came too late to save the Turkish side who had lost their home leg 4-0 last week. Dubnica will now host the first leg next weekend against Newcastle, who finished 14th in the Premiership last season and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup.
Depor scare
RC Deportivo La Coruña were given a scare away to FK Buducnost Podgorica where they lost 2-1 but still prevailed 4-2 on aggregate. Buducnost striker Radislav Sekulic broke the deadlock just after the hour with his sixth goal of the competition, before Nikola Vujovic brought his side to within a goal of levelling the aggregate score with a second in the closing stages.
Late penalty
However, the Serbia and Montenegrin side’s Intertoto dreams were extinguished when Roberto Acuña struck a last-minute penalty for the Primera División side. Deportivo face the winner of Sunday’s tie between NK Slaven Koprivnica and FC Gloria 1922 Bistrita in the next phase.
Dinaburg denied
Lithuania's FK Žalgiris Vilnius will play Egaleo FC from Greece in the third round after eliminating FC Dinaburg 3-2 on aggregate, despite losing the second leg on Saturday 2-1 in Latvia. Karolis Jasaitis’s converted penalty on the stroke of half-time proved the difference after Dinaburg’s Dmitrijs Cugunovs and Mihails Zizilevs had earlier leveled the overall scoreline with two goals in two minutes.
Sigma advance
A goalless draw in Poland for SK Sigma Olomouc was sufficient to earn the Czech club a 1-0 aggregate win at the expense of local favourites MKS Pogon Szczecin. Finnish side Tampere United advanced by the same scoreline after drawing 0-0 away to Belgian side R. Charleroi SC to set up a meeting with Italy's S.S Lazio.
Cluj advance
CFR Cluj advanced despite losing 1-0 away to Athletic Club Bilbao. With the aggregate score tied 1-1 the game went to extra-time then penalties, which the Romanian side won 5-3. Third-round first-leg ties will be played next weekend, 16 and 17 July.
