Illustrious career
The 30-year-old, capped 39 times by England, scored once in 27 appearances last season for Newcastle, who he had joined in the summer of 2004 after 12 years at Manchester United FC.
Bruce reunion
The defensive midfielder’s move to the Midlands will see him link up once more with Birmingham manager Steve Bruce, who was Butt’s captain at Old Trafford until 1996.
